Unlocking Web3 Gaming with Moonbeam and the ChainSafe Gaming SDK

Unlocking Web3 Gaming with Moonbeam and the ChainSafe Gaming SDK

Authored by Timothy Hao Chi Ho

A spotlight on the web3.unity library from the Polkadot ecosystem

As ambassadors to the multi-chain vision, ChainSafe is proud to officially recognize our long-term collaboration with Moonbeam and our Gaming SDK, web3.unity. Since our launch announcement, the Moonbeam network has seen out-of-the-box integration with web3.unity thanks to its EVM compatibility. Moreover, with the wave of recent attention to web3 gaming via NFTs, play-to-earn, GameFi, and more, a wealth of gaming developers have now been exposed to the potential abound in this design space.

We would like to especially highlight the efforts from Moonbeam through the Moonriver Grant Hackathon (in conjunction with DoraHacks), which is impactfully shedding light on the public good that is our open source Gaming SDK, web3.unity. Thanks to this latest event from Moonbeam emboldening developers to cross the web2-to-web3 chasm, hackers are harnessing the potential of a fast finality EVM-compatible chain on Polkadot with a similarly fast and intuitive connection between the Unity gaming engine to the cryptoeconomic design of web3 via the SDK.

ChainSafe's Gaming SDK, web3.unity, is akin to a bridge between the Unity gaming engine and blockchain networks like Ethereum, Moonbeam, Cronos, Polygon, and more. It is a drag-and-drop installable library that supports multiple chains, multiple token standards (20, 721, 1155), multiple platforms (iOS, Android, Browser), multiple wallets, and multiple marketplaces. A core ethos at ChainSafe is chain agnosticism by way of technological objectivity, and the open source software we build is no different.

Moonbeam, for its thriving ecosystem and expanse of up-and-coming developers, has a critical role to play in paving the way for the next generation of gaming. We are incredibly excited to witness the creativity sure to be put on display at the DoraHacks hackathon, and also in this new and exciting paradigm being unlocked by the teams advancing Moonbeam and Moonriver.

ChainSafe has created a trove of resources and documentation that can bootstrap developers into action, today. You can check them out here:

Our latest with Moonbeam

On Wednesday, May 4th 2022, we participated in the first Moonbuilder's Community call! You can watch the full recording here 👇

Moonbuilders Community Call - Crowdcast

Next up on Wednesday, May 18th 2022, web3.unity developer and Community Manager Kwame Bryan will be joining Moonbeam's Moonbuilders Workshop! We will do a live demo of the Gaming SDK and how to use it within Unity.

The Moonbuilders Workshop is a series of technical presentations for developers. It showcases how to use Moonbeam and Moonriver's smart contract platform in Polkadot & Kusama, and teach developers how to use tools and integrations in Moonbeam's ecosystem.

About Moonbeam

Moonbeam is an Ethereum-compatible smart contract platform and the top destination for multi-chain applications on the Polkadot network. Ethereum compatibility allows developers to deploy existing Solidity smart contracts and DApp frontends to Moonbeam with minimal changes. Like Moonriver, its sister parachain on Kusama, Moonbeam is expected to accumulate developer and user activity from the 80+ projects building DApps and protocols on the network. As a parachain on the Polkadot network, Moonbeam benefits from the shared security of the Polkadot Relay Chain and integrations with other chains that are connected to Polkadot.
