Privacy-preserving monetization via predicate logic
In institutional networks, regulatory compliance and strict data privacy laws make traditional bulk data-sharing methods (such as dumping massive JSON files) a massive legal liability. The x402 Facilitator resolves this by shifting the paradigm from raw data delivery to Predicate Logic (Yes/No queries).
Instead of purchasing an entire data record, a querying agent can pay a fractional fee to ask an absolute binary question. For example, a compliance bot can ping a foreign bank node to verify a specific parameter: “Does account number X represent a sanctioned entity?”
The providing institution’s database processes the query locally, verifies the payment via the x402 facilitator, and returns a cryptographic True or False confirmation. The x402 Facilitator is packaged as a standard Docker container that can be deployed directly into your existing Canton infrastructure. How the Canton x402 Facilitator works
The x402 Facilitator translates the open-source HTTP 402 ("Payment Required") status standard directly into automated ledger execution. Instead of pre-loading credit balances or handling complex authentication tokens, the Facilitator manages a seamless Challenge-Settle-Retry loop built entirely for machine-to-machine traffic.

- An autonomous agent requests an unauthenticated, gated Canton API endpoint to fetch a dynamic resource.
- The endpoint rejects the request, instantly returning an HTTP 402 status code along with an encrypted header specifying the exact price quote for that unique data payload.
- With a pre-funded private key, the agent reads the header and automatically routes the required transaction through the x402 Facilitator app to settle the fee directly on the Canton ledger.
- Upon verification of ledger finality, the agent automatically retries the request, the paywall drops, and the endpoint delivers the data—all executed programmatically in milliseconds.
